Overview

The A6M3 Model 22 was a variant of the legendary Mitsubishi Zero fighter, designed to correct the reduced flight range of its clipped-wing predecessor, the Model 32 ‘Hamp.’ This was achieved by returning to the standard-length 12-meter wings and fitting larger fuel tanks. First assigned to flight groups in early 1943, the Model 22 saw extensive and heavy action in the hotly contested Solomon Islands campaign.

This 1/72 scale kit from Tamiya is a detailed replica of this important Zero variant. The model accurately captures the more symmetrical form of the Model 22, including its redesigned engine cowling and classic wing shape.
