Enkaustikos Encaustic Paint is a professional-quality wax-based paint that must be heated before use. Hot Sticks are formulated for versatility, featuring a unique square shape that allows artists to experiment with a wide range of encaustic techniques, including painting, printmaking, rubbings, and mixed media applications. They can be applied directly to a heated surface or melted for broader coverage and color mixing.
The Basic Set includes: Bone Black, Titanium White, Wax Medium, and XD Wax Medium.
    •    Titanium White – A brilliant, opaque white with superior tinting strength. Just a small amount shifts color values when mixed with other paints. Its opacity can mask translucent effects, making it excellent for direct painting, layering, and creating custom color mixes. Extend with wax medium for smoother flow and increased mileage.
    •    Bone Black – An opaque, single-pigment black with dense coverage and slightly warm undertones. Ideal for tinting, shading, and mixing with other colors.
    •    Wax Medium – Made from six parts U.S. Pharmaceutical Grade Beeswax and one part Damar Resin. This versatile medium can be used as a base coat, topcoat, or mixed with encaustic paints to increase transparency and improve flow. Perfect for glazing and creating custom colors.
    •    XD Wax Medium – A 50/50 blend of damar gum and USP Beeswax that results in a harder, glossier, and more translucent finish than standard wax medium. With its higher melting point and flexible consistency, it’s ideal for transparent glazes and as a durable topcoat over watercolor or gouache—eliminating the need for glass protection.
Application Methods:
    •    Melt and Apply: Heat the sticks on a hot plate or palette until they melt into a liquid puddle, then use a brush to apply.
    •    Direct Application: Apply the melted stick directly to a heated substrate for expressive, immediate color placement.
    •    Custom Colors: Melt and mix sticks to create custom hues and a personalized encaustic palette.
For best results, use with the Enkaustikos Anodized Aluminum Plate (4×4, EN16200) and Hog Bristle Brushes (EN70050 and EN70055).
