Bluetooth-operated, it has quick response times, longer battery life, and effortless integration into your smart home ecosystem. Manual control is also available, including a physical display on the device for information.

It’s natively compatible with Bluetooth, and can be instantly included on the Shelly app through Bluetooth pairing for a simple and pain-free first-time setup, as well as linked with external sensors like the Shelly BLU H&T Bluetooth temperature and humidity sensor, or the Shelly BLU Door and Window Sensor for a fully smart heating and cooling system.

The TRV can also connect to your wider Shelly network over WiFi by using the included Shelly USB Gateway, offering a bridge between WiFi and Bluetooth devices to communicate (or use another close-by WiFi-enabled Shelly Plus, Pro or Gen3 device as a gateway). Once connected to your Shelly network, you can use it with your Shelly smart home ecosystem, including the Shelly Smart Control app – or link it with a popular home automation software such as Home Assistant via a Raspberry Pi!

The TRV is powered by two included AA 1.5V batteries, with an extremely low battery usage profile and a lifespan of up to two years on a single set of batteries.

A note from our experience with the Shelly BLU TRV

One of the team set up a TRV in their home, including using it via Home Assistant. Here are a few notes to help you avoid the mistakes we made!

• You have to use the included Gateway, which is different to the standard Shelly USB Gateway
  • Apparently they are tied to the TRV, but we’ve also found some discussions online suggesting you can tie up to three TRVs to a single gateway.
  • The TRV cannot use a Gen3/Gen4 device as a gateway (yeah, we hate this too!)
• In Home Assistant, we wanted to effectively turn a room’s radiator off at certain times
  • To do this, in the Shelly app/web interface, we had to turn off ‘Automatic Temperature Control’ so that the valve would adjust based on the target temps we set in HA
  • In HA, we use the Climate action, setting the target temperature to 10 degrees (value 10), but also HVAC mode to ‘Heat’.
