Crafted Cosmo – Striped Black Buffalo Horn

We’ve celebrated Akoni for years, drawn to their insistence on genuine craftsmanship—they dedicate themselves to materials, processes and finishes that respect both tradition and innovation. The Crafted Cosmo is the latest and greatest expression of that sentiment. 

With only a handful of these being available in the world, we’re fortunate enough to house a pair. They’re crafted from water buffalo horn that offers a limited range of colours depending on the cut of the horn and how its treated—the striped black buffalo horn creates a striking contrast and is a rare and fascinating variant only found in select horns. Akoni’s artisans dedicate 30 hours to hand-carve, sculpt and finish each piece, the process is meticulous. Using precision machinery the rough shape is cut from the horn block, then they hand-carve every detail with rasps and files, shaping the frames with a high level of attention to detail that only high-end artisans can achieve. Lastly, sandpaper and blades are used to refine the surface giving the piece its texture, enhancing the final polish. 

The shape reimagines the classic wellington frame and are complemented by Japanese deep emerald lenses.

Each pair comes housed in a custom aluminium case with additional full-grain leather soft case, polishing cloth and special cream to preserve and protect the buffalo horn.
