MULTIPORT 232 is a device that will allow receipts to be issued on one fiscal printer from several sales programs installed on different computers. For many years, electronic cash registers or computer workstations with sales programs have been used in retail sales. The end result of each sale is a receipt, which is printed either on the cash register or on a special printer attached to the computer. In the latter case, the receipt printer is attached to the computer via the RS232 serial port on the computer. In many stores, due to the speed of customer service, it is convenient and often necessary to conduct sales at several stations. In order to be able to work on several stations simultaneously, you can proceed in many ways, but the solutions used so far have significant drawbacks.
Here are a few possible ways to proceed:
1. Equip each sales station with a separate fiscal printer. (This is an extremely expensive solution).
2. Apply advanced software that shares the printer in a computer network. (This solution is complicated and not always possible, requiring appropriate or additional software).
3.Apply ‘MULTIPORT 232’ thus allowing two computers to connect to one RS232 serial printer.
– Flow printer access control type: RTS/CTS
– Printer mode: SLAVE
– Transmission speed: 1-115200 b/sec
– Power supply (USB port or AC adapter): +5V +/-0.25V / 0.5W
– Multiport Rs-232 splitter for fiscal printer
Installation.
The MULTIPORT232 device is equipped with 3 connectors in the typical RS232C standard for serial transmission:
one male connector for connecting a serial printer and 2 female connectors for connecting computers. To make the connection in the simplest case, use a typical ‘1to1’ serial transmission cable terminated with a DB-9 plug on one side and a DB-9 socket on the other. Depending on the type of printer to be connected, you may need to use a different type of connector on the printer side. Therefore, always check the standard of the printer you want to connect. The device is powered from the USB port of the computer or from an external power supply.
– It is universal: the printer is still terminated with an RS232 port the software sees no difference whether the communication takes place directly with the printer or with the MULTIPORT 232 device
– It is easy to use: the selection of the port through which the communication with the printer is currently taking place takes place automatically and no switches are needed, the installation is limited to connecting the MULTIPORT 232 device between the printer and the computer and supplying power from the computer’s USB port or power supply.
– Reliable: while communication with the printer is taking place through one of the two ports of the device, the other port remains inactive (during this time it receives a transmission hold signal) until the transmission on the first port is completed and does not introduce interference.
– Inexpensive: the cost of the device is about 10 times lower than a second printer!
