Slum Village released Fantastic, Vol.2 in 2000, after a long delay caused by label drama, etc. Certainly the Detroit group’s best work, the highly praised album shaped the direction underground hip-hop/neo soul would take in the following years. T3 and Baatin’s rhymes contributed to this feat, but it was the late Jay Dee’s production work that attracted the most attention – subtle-yet-potent baselines, super soulful grooves, and his signature ‘loose’ feel. This deluxe random color 2LP edition contains just the beats – ‘Players,’ ‘Hold Tight,’ ‘Tell Me,’ ‘I Don’t Know,’ ‘Once Upon A Time,’ ‘Fall In Love,’ and ‘Raise It Up’ still sound as fresh and brilliant as ever. Recommended.
