Overview

The M8 Howitzer Motor Carriage was the first standardized self-propelled howitzer to equip the U.S. Army in World War II. Combining the agile M5 light tank chassis with a powerful 75mm howitzer in an open-topped turret, it provided vital and mobile fire support to infantry and armoured units from mid-1943 in the Italian, European, and Pacific Theaters.
