Overview

Famous for its daring torpedo attacks, the Fairey Swordfish took on the vital but less glamorous role of an anti-submarine hunter in the latter half of WWII. The Mk.II variant, introduced in 1943, featured metal lower wings, allowing it to carry a formidable payload of rockets. Flying from the decks of escort carriers, these rugged biplanes helped protect the vital Atlantic convoys and sank 20 U-boats by the war’s end.

This 1/48 scale kit from Tamiya is a detailed replica of the anti-submarine ‘Stringbag.’ The model accurately reproduces the specific features of the Mk.II, including its metal lower wings and radar antenna array.
